For many years brethren living in Ponteland had been unable to establish a Masonic Lodge as no suitable premises were available. In 1964 W.Bro Alan Pope ProvGDC located a lodge room at 57 Grainger Street. A meeting on 13th November 1964 agreed that Ponteland Lodge would meet there until such time as premises in or near Ponteland were located. Membership should be drawn as far as possible from those with a Ponteland connection.
At a meeting on 15th December 1964 several additional brethren were present who expressed a desire to become founders. W.Bro Pope the Consecrating Officer proposed W.Bro Curry PProvGW as the first Master. Brandling Lodge confirmed that they would sponsor the new Lodge. On the 6th May 1965 the Consecration took place within Gosforth Masonic Temple.
At the first Regular meeting on 7th October 1965 W Bro J A Pope was elected as a joining member and Mr J E H Forster was initiated as the first member by the W.M assisted by W.Bro N Forster the candidates father.
From 1965 until 1st October 1970, Ponteland Lodge met in Newcastle. However an extension was added to Ponteland Memorial Hall and the Lodge found a suitable meeting place within the community.
Interesting items agreed by the founders were that Dinner Jackets would be worn. It would be a guest lodge using "Northumbrian" working. Two candidates per annum with a total membership of 60. There would be no founders or Past Masters Jewels. There would be no "firing" or "harmony" (i.e. Entertainment) at the Festive Board.
