KAPSOWAR UPDATE
In January we received the following e-mail from Philemon Kimtai, the administrator of Kapsowar Hospital:
Dear Colin,
Greetings from Kapsowar in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Hope you had a nice Christmas and a happy New Year. We had a safe journey back home from the US, and it was nice talking to you on the phone. We hope to visit your church in the near future.
The hospital is fairly busy. We thank God that the Government sent us two doctors who are Christians, although they are also transferring Dr. Kapkoni, who has worked with us for two years. Also Dr. Paul Larson who joined us in January, through AIM (African Inland Mission.). This will help us greatly, as we are getting busier every day.
The Nursing School Project is going well, we are just finishing the foundations. The Samaritan Purse Charity sent us a Principal for the school and they will pay his salary for one and a half years, which they may extend for up to three years until the school is up and running. The Nursing Council is visiting our hospital in February/March to give us its final approval, and we hope to get the first intake of students in September 2007. This will help us to train the local people who will have an interest in staying with us. Last year we lost over 18 nurses who left to join Government hospitals. Therefore, it would be great if we could get our own training school. Our current challenge is to get the funds needed. So far we have spent KES (Kenya shillings) 8 million (£64,000), and the main building will cost KES30 million (£240,000). On 4th March 2007 we have planned a fundraising event towards this project.
Concerning Isaac (the young Kenyan nurse who is training to be a doctor and whom we sponsored to get going) he has passed most of his exams. Dr. Steve Lee (Kapsowar Clinical Director) will meet the Dean of the Medical school to discuss Isaac’s next step.
Dr.Stanley Lindsay from Bedford, England, will be visiting KAPSOWAR from 20th, February to 6th. March. It is almost 30 years since he left Kapsowar, after a period of 30 years working in the hospital. The whole of the Makarwet region (the region around Kapsowar) is rejoicing and looking forward to seeing him again.
Colin, we are all grateful for the support your church has given to Kapsowar for many years. God will reward you, your labour is not in vain.
Please, if there is any way you can raise some funds for this project, whatever the Lord provides, we will be grateful. We are determined to begin this school in September 2007, and wish that one of your church members could visit us at the time of the official opening of the school in September 2007.
Let me once again say thank you for all your church’s support and prayers. Please continue praying for us.
Have a blessed 2007. Philemon
We have balance of about £750 in the Kapsowar account left over from 2006, which we will send to Philemon as a contribution to the Nursing school fund. It would be nice if we could send a round £1,000 (KES125,000). If any of our readers would like to make a donation to this cause, please give it to:-
Jim Robertson, Treasurer of the Kapsowar account. Jim will ensure that it reaches Kapsowar via AIM.
Colin Scott.
