ELDERS MEETING 1st DECEMBER 2004

At our December meeting, the Elders' main topics for discussion included :-

  • Equipping the Saints: We have received this important Report and Workbook which is to assist the church nationally in planning its future. Our eventual response will not be included in papers for Assembly 2005 but it is important that Synod is aware of our thoughts. Initially, the meeting noted questions relating to lay leadership and presiding at communion. We have asked Ray, together with Ena and John, to bring draft discussion notes and points for our consideration.
  • Working Groups: We hope to have a scheme of the groups needed to manage church affairs to bring to the AGM in March.
  • Elders: Four Elders retire in March and the meeting has considered several potential Elders, but is struggling to bring our active Elder numbers up to the present levels. We will spend time at our January meeting considering Eldership and the format and conduct of Elders meetings.
  • Photography in Church: We have considered expressions of concern from members about photography during Sunday morning Service. We decided we should not have a policy and that, for baptism services, a photo opportunity be offered for after the service has ended. We noted that camcorders used unobtrusively are less obvious than still photography with flash. Also, we occasionally invite members to photograph specific events for our own church records.

The full minute of this meeting is in the Elders drawer at the church door.
