On 6th October the Elders monthly meeting discussed
- Presentations to the Special church Meeting on 3rd November, particularly the Elders review of the Church Project
- That we would have no monthly meeting in November, but would meet after the church meeting to review the discussion and outcome of that meeting
- We discussed how Christian our meetings are and how we respond to the seeking of God's Will
- The One World Group asked us about priorities in considering which organisations to support. Our response is :-
"As a church we should give priority, but not exclusivity, to organisations with a Christian Ethos" - We welcomed a report from the Communications Group that the monthly newsletter is now well-established and agreed a revised distribution system, including posting the newsletter to some 100 members and friends who do not attend church regularly.
The Special Church Meeting on 3rd November considered the Elders' review of the Church Development Project and their resolution:-
"Having approved the appointment of the Ainsworth Spark Partnership as Architects to the Church, the meeting approves the fees necessary both for those services and the services of support professionals engaged in consultation between ourselves and the architect. These fees, together with contingences, amount to of the order of £25,000.00 (including VAT)."
After considerable discussion the meeting voted by 51 to 14 (78.5%) to approve the resolution.
The Elders met after the Special Church Meeting and we were pleased that the decision had been taken to move the Church Development Project forward. We recognised also that we need to maintain dialogue with members, especially those who expressed doubts and concerns about the future steps we may take. We appreciate the need for the composition of the Project Team to be reviewed and that a smaller team is now appropriate to move the project on. |
