We held two meetings this month, the first to prepare our thoughts for the special Church Meeting arranged for Thursday 16th March and for which all members and friends have now received written invitations. We considered a draft of this letter of invitation and agreed that the resolution for the meeting should not be included in the letter but be set out in the agenda for the meeting. We also talked about the steps and actions required after the special meeting in the event that the proposed resolution is approved.
At our regular monthly meeting the following week, we agreed that a small group should give further thought to these matters and draft proposals for action after the church meeting.
We are concerned that there is an absence of volunteers to become elders or to resume active eldership after a rest and also to take up teaching our youngsters on Sundays. All our present Junior Church teachers have served for well over ten years and fresh faces would be most welcome.
We received reports from working groups; the world group on the forthcoming synod environment day on 11th March and the first meeting of the worship preparation group. We also received our monthly update on the work undertaken by the committee of management.
The communications group reported on the Newsletter and proposed that it be renamed “The Source”. They suggested that we should promote ourselves as the “source of our community“ and use that phrase in our service sheets, newsletter and in all our publicity material. The Elders agreed that the Newsletter be renamed “The Source” and that a competition be held in the summer for a logo and banner heading.
