ELDERS MONTHLY MEETING JUNE 2007

The Elders had met representatives of the Synod Pastoral Committee to discuss the future of our ministerial provision. The situation will be that we will not be able to declare a vacancy at present and will need to utilise our own resources for an indefinite period. We are seen as a “strong church” but we feel the need for inspiration from a leader, a focal point around whom we can begin to identify, secure and manage the resources needed to carry our mission and vision forward. We set up an “ad hoc” meeting to begin to address our future and held it on 12th June when we had a very positive discussion on moving forward while maintaining the trust of our members.

We arranged our next study programme and will look at a set of DVD’s based on the book of Jonah and having the title “A Walk on the Wild Side”. We find our study sessions are a source of fellowship, trust and inspiration to us.

We considered a number of matters:-

  • Our proposed revised Elders districts were approved.
  • We talked about a seminar, attended by some of us, on “Vulnerable Adults” in the church context, including those who are exploited through their willingness to serve. The church nationally is at an early stage in formulating guidance.
  • We considered the future of the Junior Church when we will not have anyone to lead or teach.
  • We considered matters to be brought to our church meeting on 24th June.
  • We noted with much pleasure that we are now an “Eco-Congregation” and will thank Penny Hewitt for her effort and leadership on this matter.
  • It was also good to note the award of a £10,000 grant from Castle Morpeth B.C. for our Development Project, improvement of the vestibule.
  • We noted concerns and uncertainty over the start of Sunday worship and agreed to review our procedures in the Autumn.
