The Party in the Park on Sunday 10th June, was again an excellent day. The Party was officially opened by Councillor Robin Ramsay who acknowledged that the event has become owned by, not just the Four Churches, but also the community.
The day was well attended and the many stalls attracted interest, it was good to see and hear about the many clubs, which thrive in Ponteland. There were big queues for the Bouncy Castles and the Fire Engine and the Tea Tent had constant customers from 1.30 pm onwards.
The entertainment put on at the “West End” stage was well performed, included a Country & Western group, children’s choirs, a family service and a Panto, put on by the young people from Ponteland Repertory. The youngsters showed what talented children there are in our area. The Panto was a mixed up Panto with characters appearing from various pantomimes. They called it a “Compost of Pantos” well rotted material. “Fairy Liquid” was the bad fairy and “Fairynuff” the good. We saw Buttons, Snow-white and Aladdin, who had to fight Captain Hook (it was Peter Pan’s night off). It all ended with Capt. Hook receiving a plateful in his face, so that the Custard Pie won the Day. Well done to all who performed.
The Master of Ceremonies, as usual, was Norvil McClurg, his cheerful banter keeps the crowds informed and aware of what is going on around the Park. He links the entertainment with various interviews of people who are present, which included a representative from Newcastle International Airport the main sponsors of the day, the newly formed Civic Society, a representative of the Alpha Course, Kindermusic, Woodhorn Art Group, exhibiting the traditional Northumberland Art, and of course Professor Grunamensch (The Punch & Judy Show).
Lots of workers are involved in the organising and running of the event. The planning continues throughout the year. The Ponteland Scouts are so supportive of this Day. They provide many facilities, free use of their Hut, equipment, marquee, and they willingly give tremendous help on the Day.
A wonderful event and at times the sun did shine making a pleasant day for all to spend Partying in the Park.
